Illuminate Your Space with Nature's Soft Glow: Discover the Bloom Collection
The Genesis of Bloom: Nature's Influence on Design
Imagine a mushroom emerging from the forest floor or the delicate bells of lily-of-the-valley, expanded to an immersive scale. This essence of natural wonder is captured in Hwang Bishop's latest 'Bloom' lighting collection. Comprising sixteen sculptural pieces, each light fixture is a testament to the studio's deep appreciation for desert flora and the subtle contours shaped by wind, embodying organic forms and fluid movement. This launch also signifies the debut of the studio's pioneering Matte Glaze Palette, a significant artistic progression for ceramicist Felicia Hwang, previously renowned for her vibrant, glossy finishes.
The Art of Handcrafting: A Tactile Experience
Every piece in the collection is meticulously fashioned in Warren, Rhode Island. The distinctive ridges imprinted by the artist's fingers during the clay-shaping process are preserved, telling a story of human touch solidified through intense heat. The ceramic undergoes a precise slipcasting and refining process, followed by bisque-firing, glazing, and a final kiln-firing. This rigorous method imbues each creation with subtle irregularities, resulting in a product that feels both earthy and ethereal, rooted yet gracefully light within any interior.
Expanding Horizons: The Multi-Tier Chandelier
Beyond the core 16-piece collection, Hwang introduces a unique, multi-tiered Bloom chandelier. This striking fixture features a cascade of ceramic shades gracefully suspended from a brass frame. The soft matte glazes enhance the interplay of light and shadow, creating a visually captivating composition that draws the eye upward.
Versatility in Design: Lamps for Every Setting
The Bloom collection offers a diverse range of lighting solutions, including sconces, pendants, flush mounts, chandeliers, and table lamps. Notable configurations include the 12-globe Anthesis, the 6-globe Cascade, the 6-globe Garland, the 2-globe Equilibrium, and the 5-globe Ikebana. Each design is anchored by elegant brass hardware, and custom sizing, hardware, and finish options are available, reflecting the made-to-order nature of the collection.
Table Lamps: A Journey into Elemental Landscapes
While the pendants and sconces evoke the gentle sway of blossoms, the table lamps transport observers to otherworldly scenes. Whether perched on a compact, rounded base or a taller, conical form, their shades ascend like mushrooms in a field, rendered in colors reminiscent of primal landscapes. Each silhouette beautifully encapsulates the delicate balance between meticulous craftsmanship and organic irregularity, a hallmark of Hwang's distinctive aesthetic.
The Matte Glaze Palette: Capturing the Nuances of Light
In contrast to traditional gloss finishes that reflect their surroundings, the new Matte Glaze Palette is designed to absorb and diffuse light. Available in nine nature-inspired shades—including Meadow Moss, Arctic Sky, Midnight, Crowberry, Lava Glow, Golden Hour, Glacial Blue, Ash, and Kaffi—these non-reflective finishes intentionally deepen the profile of each piece. Inspired by mineral formations, glacial hues, verdant botanicals, and the softened light of twilight, the palette accentuates relief, shadow, and texture. This new color and surface language, introduced with Bloom, will now be incorporated across the studio’s entire range of designs.
Beyond Illumination: A Story of Growth and Craft
With the introduction of Bloom, lighting transcends its functional purpose to become a narrative of touch, a meticulous exploration of shadow, and a poignant reminder that natural evolution—characterized by its slowness, inherent imperfections, and profound humanity—can imbue a space with vibrant life and character.
